The holidays are a time of celebration, catching up with old friends and family, and most importantly: feasting. This time of the year is also one of the busiest times; schedules are packed with tasks such as finishing studies, work requirements, and gift shopping. Managing all of the hectic daily to-do’s can take away from the aura of the season and easily cause you to forget to take a moment to enjoy the holiday spirit.

One simple way to remind yourself of the joy that the holidays bring is by dressing for the season. That does not mean by wearing your grandma’s favorite reindeer sweater that jingles when you walk. There are so many different colors and styles during this time of the year that reflect the holiday season, so why not do your Christmas shopping and cookie baking in style?

As the first holiday of the season, Thanksgiving colors are more traditionally deeper tones such as dark emerald greens, plums, navy blues, burnt oranges and burgundy. However, not all of these colors have to be paired together.

To make a bold statement, chose one color, such as a burgundy dress, and pair it with neutrals such as black stockings and black booties. This way, your dress is the focal point of your outfit and you can still dress warmly and comfortably by adding the stockings.

For those who are looking for a chic color combination, try a navy blue top and accessorize with a burnt orange clutch to give your look a seasonal pop of color.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that Christmas colors are traditionally green and red. This long-established color clashing combination is perfect for decorating a Christmas tree, but when paired together as an outfit, can come across looking like Halloween costume.

For those who would like to stick with the tradition of red and green but want a chicer more polished look, look for bright reds and emerald greens. To make your outfit sparkle add on silver or gold jewelry, however do not mix the two unless you want to look like an ornament.

One look that is very popular this season are jumpsuits. Although they are more frequently worn during the warmer months, pairing a jumpsuit with a blazer and some strappy heels will make you the most stylish relative at Christmas dinner.

A second popular trend during this time of the year are sweater dresses. Try adding a belt for emphasis to what is ordinarily a plain look. To complete the outfit add stockings or legwarmers and oxford heels.

New Year’s is one of the only times of the year where it is perfectly acceptable to wear a dress made entirely of sequins.

Celebrate the New Year with glitter and sparkle, but be careful to not go overboard. Try an all-black ensemble and work in sparkly jewelry, shoes or a handbag. A second look to try is sequined shorts and a simple camisole. With glittery sparkly clothing, less is more, so when buying a sparkly piece, make it the focal point of your outfit.

The holidays is the happiest time of the year. Celebrate them and wow family and old friends by making this your most fashionable holiday season yet.
