Garth Brooks looks set to make a triumphant return to the stage in 2014 after announcing that he will be embark on a mammoth world tour marking his comeback more than 10 years after taking a lengthy break to settle into family life.

The 51-year-old has maintained a relatively low profile since taking a break from recording back in 2001 but he excited the world of country music yesterday when he announced during an appearance on Good Morning America that he will be launching a world tour next year.

Speaking to anchor Robin Roberts, Garth was initially coy about his plans and attempted to dodge questioning about a possible tour, saying: “I would love to but at 52, I'm worried it's the wheelchair and walker tour kinda-thing,” before then adding: “Between me and you, I think we'll make an announcement very soon.”

When Robin charged: “If you want to, you can make it right now!” Garth finally gave in, announcing: “You sure? Well, you know what? Since it's you and since we've had a history forever, let's announce it. We're going on a world tour in 2014.”

After releasing his ninth studio album 'Scarecrow,' which peaked at number one, in 2001, Garth decided to take a hiatus from his hugely successful recording career and spend time with his wife Trisha Yearwood and their three daughters.

Garth occasionally made an appearance on stage performing sporadic live shows and even had a residency in Las Vegas but only played weekend shows so he could spend more time with his family.

Speaking of his commitment to life at home, Garth told Robin: “My children are off on their own, so the guilt of not being there ... I'm a phone-call dad now. It sure feels good to get to throw your hat back in the ring.”

Incredibly, Garth has sold more than 125 million albums ranking him the second best-selling solo albums artist of all time in the US behind Elvis Presley, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Dates and further details for Garth's tour will be announced throughout this week.
