The BBC has treated Sherlock[1] fans to a "mini-episode" teasing the super-sleuth's return in a third series of the drama.

Released just in time for Christmas, the seven-minute featurette is titled "Many Happy Returns" and sees the show's supporting cast discussing the possible return of Benedict Cumberbatch[2] 's Holmes.

The final episode of series two apparently saw the detective fall to his death from a rooftop, but not everyone is convinced that he really is dead.

One budding sleuth points to a series of crimes solved with offbeat techniques in far-flung corners of the world - and argues that the cases bear Holmes' fingerprints.

The featurette was written by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat.

Benedict Cumberbatch recently defended the inclusion [3] of a bomb plot in the new series.
