The next flick from the Wachowski siblings just got its first teaser and I believe this one will peak the interest of more people than their previous project. In other words Jupiter Ascending[1] seems to be a more mainstream product, back to basics if you will, compared to the often divisive and not exactly easy Cloud Atlas. It’s up to you to decide if that’s good or bad.
Watch the Jupiter Ascending trailer below:
So from what I understand (by reading a synopsis, because the trailer sure doesn’t explain itself all that well) this very high concept sci-fi is set in a future world where humans are at the bottom of the evolution chain (as you’d expect). There’s a Queen of the Universe which is not a nice person since she sends interplanetary warrior Caine (Channing Tatum[2] ) to kill Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis), a pour Russian immigrant who cleans toilets for a living. Why is she so important you may ask? Well it turn out Jupiter was born on a special night and her DNA says she is next in line to be the leader of the Universe. As I said before, very high concept sci-fi (not in a bad way). Based on what the trailer shows, Caine doesn’t kill Jupiter but instead decides to help her and thus we have our movie. More The Matrix, less Cloud Atlas is the vibe I’m getting here.
Written, produced and directed by the Wachowskis[3] , Jupiter Ascending stars Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Sean Bean (bet he dies before the end credits) and Terry Gilliam[4] among others.
Jupiter Ascending opens July 25th in North America and the UK.
