Lou Reed's public memorial, to be held Thursday at Lincoln Center in New York City, will be notable for what it will lack.
According to a post on the the late artist's Facebook page[1] , "New York: Lou Reed at Lincoln Center" will be open to fans and include "no speeches, no live performances, just Lou's voice, guitar music & songs - playing the recordings selected by his family and friends."
The event will be held at the Paul Milstein Pool & Terrace at Lincoln Center from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14.
The former Velvet Underground frontman died Oct. 27 of complications from a liver transplant earlier this year. He was 71. His death drew emotional responses from rock fans and the countless artists he inspired during his decades in music. "He was curious, sometimes suspicious, a voracious reader, and a sonic explorer," Patti Smith wrote in a piece for The New Yorker.
