A day and a half after "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire"[1] opened to epic midnight numbers,[2] one of the movie's stars, Josh Hutcherson, leapt from the big screen[3] to the small stage to host "Saturday Night Live."

While Josh has talked about almost every topic imaginable for the much-anticipated second installment of the flick, from his "spongy" kissing approach with Jennifer Lawrence[4] to a red carpet slip-up of Peeta and Katniss' couple nickname[5] , the Games continued in the host's adorable opening monologue at studio 8H. The just-turned 21-year-old's greeting to viewers was interrupted by none other than Effie Trinket[6] (Kate McKinnon). Effie wanted to play the games with the "SNL" cast, selecting one male and one female cast member to come onstage and fight to the death. The actors trembled nearby, as newbie Noel Wells and Bobby Moynihan (who appeared with Josh in his fiery "SNL" promos[7] ) were selected.

But before the two could face off, Cecily Strong, dressed as Jennifer Lawrence's character Katniss Everdeen, exclaimed "I volunteer as tribute."

"Why are you carrying a bow and arrow?" Josh asked.

"It's New York City. It's a jungle out there," she replied.

Cecily's trigger finger then slipped, sending an arrow into Bobby's chest. After high-fiving a forceful Cecily, delicate and fragile Josh exclaims he is also injured, and must be carried into the next sketch. The site of the diminutive Hutcherson being carted off stage via a piggyback ride was perhaps the monologue's funniest moment.

Stepping out of the arena, Josh went on to play a variety of characters in the "Saturday Night" line-up. He appeared on the Girlfriends Talk Show as Trevor, an eye-candy a cappella singer, donned a tough exterior as a subway dancer known as Lil' Peanut[8] , and sported a mullet and lip synced along to "Your Love" in an '80s bit.

Giving Josh a break between bits, girl-group Haim[9] rocked the stage with performances of "The Wire" and "Don't Save Me." The sister trio even made a comedic cameo, wearing neon-highlighter-colored clothes and strumming guitars in the '80s sketch.
