First comes the marriage proposal, then comes questions about the baby whose mama isn't wearing the engagement ring. So goes the life of Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade.

The basketball player admitted Monday that he fathered a son while separated last year from actress Gabrielle Union, a native of Pleasanton. Wade proposed to Union on Dec. 21. Entertainment Weekly revealed news about Wade's 2-month-old son Monday morning.

But don't expect any fireworks with the newly engaged couple -- at least not yet. Wade told reporters before Monday's Heat-Nuggets game that Union apparently is A-OK with her impending status as stepmom.

"Like I've said, this is something that my family knows and my now fiancee worked through when we got back together, and understood that we wanted to continue our lives together and continue supporting our family and we're going to do that," Wade said to the Miami Herald. "That's what I've always done."

Wade added that he's seen his son -- which is such a relief; now he can put a face to the name when he cuts that support check.

OK, we'll give Wade a little credit. At least publicly, he seems happy about the fatherhood development, even calling his son "a blessing to the bloodline, to the Wade bloodline."
