Not only is it nearly Christmas but awards season is well and truly upon us! With the Golden Globe nominations being released yesterday, actors and actresses across the world were keen to find out if they are in the running to win a prestigious Golden Globe. Let's find out who is up and what they've got to say about it.


It's that time of year again. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has released its list of nominations for the 71st Annual Golden Globes awards, which will air in the new year. Naturally, thespians everywhere were eager to find out if they would be on the receiving end of a nomination from the HFPA and we soon had 2013's most prominent actors gushing about how honoured they felt. So which Hollywood hotties have been chatting about their Golden Globes nods?



The cast of American Hustle, the film received a whopping seven nominations (WENN)


Hit movies American Hustle and 12 Years a Slave lead the noms as the films were nominated in an amazing seven different categories each.


Amy Adams, who stars in David O. Russell's flick American Hustle, has been nominated for Best Performance in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and she was certainly pleased. According to E! News the flamed-haired lady said: "I am so honoured that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has recognized my work alongside such brilliant actresses."


Amy then added: "Also a huge congrats to the amazing writers, directors, and casts of American Hustle and Her for their nominations. Truly a day for gratitude."

On the red carpet in London for the premiere of Gravity (WENN)


Also receiving a nod for her performance as Dr Ryan Stone in the blockbuster Gravity, is actress, Sandra Bullock. The beautiful lady attributed her success to the amazing crew who worked on the film with her as she told E!: "The reason I am lucky enough to receive this wonderful nomination from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, is because Alfonso [Cuaron director] awarded me the most extraordinary experience, which was to work with him!"


The 49-year-old is nominated for Best Performance in a Motion Picture - Drama, facing stiff competition from ladies across the pond. That's right, English actresses have stolen the category for themselves as veteran ladies; Dame Judi Dench, Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet are all in contention for the coveted award.


Judi, who portrayed Philomena Lee in the eponymous film, Philomena made sure to thank the lady who inspired the film as she exclaimed: "What great news! I'm delighted, and hugely honoured to be in such magnificent company. And without the inspiration of Philomena herself I wouldn't of course be receiving this recognition."


Meanwhile, Judi's Philomena co-star Steve Coogan remained coy on the pair's chances of winning, telling EntertainmentWise: "I don't know. We're delighted that we even got nominations cause it's such a crowded year in terms of film."



Emma makes the perfect P.L. Travers, but will she win the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama (WENN)


Fellow Brit, Emma Thompson has been nominated for her role as P.L. Travers in Saving Mr Banks. The 54-year-old told E!: "Making this film was the most satisfying and thrilling job I've had in years. It was a privilege to work with a team of people who couldn't have been bettered. I'm really honored to be nominated."


British men haven't fared to badly either, with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Idris Elba leading the way at the Golden Globes nomination ceremony. 12 Years A Slave leading man, Chiwetel Ejiofor is up for two Best Actor awards, most notably for his amazing performance as Solomon Northup.


The 36-year-old said: "It is such a huge honour to be nominated for two Golden Globes and I would like to thank the members of the HFPA for this incredible recognition."


He then added: "The response to 12 Years A Slave and Dancing On The Edge from the public and media alike has been overwhelming and I am so very grateful. To have been a part of these amazing projects was a gift in itself, that the HFPA have responded in this way truly means so much."



Chiwetel Ejiofor has received plenty of praise for his role in 12 Years a Slave (WENN)


The German-Irish actor, Michael Fassbender also received a nod, with a nomination for Best Supporting Performance in a Motion Picture - Drama , Musical or Comedy for his portrayal of Edwin Epps in 12 Years a Slave.


The handsome actor was thrilled with the acknowledgement as he said: "I'm humbled and honoured to receive this nomination from the HFPA and thrilled for my friends Steve [McQueen, director], Chiwetel [Ejoifor] and Lupita [Nyong'o]. I feel this is such an important film so thank you to the HFPA for all their support championing Solomon Northup's story."



Idris portrayed Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom (WENN)


Rounding off the reactions is British actor, Idris Elba who received a nomination for his stunning performance as South African legend, Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Idris, who hails from East London, took the time to pay tribute to the late Mandela as he told E! News: "Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for your support, and I would also like to give a special thank you to Mr. Mandela, who will be forever missed."


We are certainly glad that we don't have to make the decision about who will win. It's definitely going to be a close call! One thing's for certain; we can't wait for January when we will find out all the winners.
