Susan Boyle has spoken of her relief after being diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome - years after being told she simply had "brain damage".
The Scottish songstress, who recently released her festive album, has said that she feared she "had a more serious illness" before heading off to seek help from a specialist.
Speaking to the Observer, she said she now feels "relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself" since the diagnosis.

“It was the wrong diagnosis when I was a kid,” she explained. “I was told I had brain damage. I always knew it was an unfair label. Now I have a clearer understanding of what's wrong and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself.”
The star - who will soon be seen making her big-screen debut in The Christmas Candle - went on: “I went to seek a diagnosis from a Scottish specialist. Nobody told me to. I thought I had a more serious illness and couldn't function properly.
“I was told my IQ was above average.”
SuBo was mocked and called 'Susie Simple' at school, but now says that she hopes people will treat her with more kindness going forward.
"I think people will treat me better because they will have a much greater understanding of who I am and why I do the things I do," she admitted.
