Warner Bros. continues to ramp up excitement for "Transcendence," unveiling a third teaser for the sci-fi thriller in a matter of two days.[1] [2]
The film follows Dr. Will Caster (Depp) as he attempts to create Artificial Intelligence that is able to perceive and feel a full range of emotions, while also transcending the limits of human intelligence. The task is not a popular one, and Caster finds himself targeted by anti-technology extremists as they try to end his work.
Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Paul Bettany and Cillian Murphy also star.
The latest teaser follows a similar format to its predecessors, featuring a robotic female voice of "RIFT" — or Revolutionary Independence From Technology, the organization dedicated to stopping Depp's Caster — warning of a future where robots control human lives. "The biggest threat humanity has ever faced is one of our own making," she says. "Computers control our banks, our airports, our national security, our lives. Once they're able to think for themselves, they'll use this power to destroy us." Sadly, Depp and Freeman are nowhere to be found in the latest promo.
Christopher Nolan's longtime cinematographer Wally Pfister makes his directorial debut with "Transcendence," with "The Dark Knight" helmer and his wife Emma Thomas on board as executive producers. Black List scribe Jack Paglen, who is also on tap to pen the screenplay for "Prometheus 2," wrote a first version of the script.
"Transcendence" hits theaters April 18, 2014.
"Transcendence" is one of four Depp films on tap for 2014. The actor plays The Wolf in Rob Marshall's "Into the Words," the titular character in David Koepp's crime comedy "Mortdecai" and reunites on-screen with Amber Heard in the mystery thriller "London Fields."
