Disney's new animation Frozen is launching in a blaze of strong reviews at the US box office this Thanksgiving weekend, but experts do not expect it to overthrow The Hunger Games: Catching Fire; which is predicted to enjoy another strong weekend.

The action sequel, starring Jennifer Lawrence, enjoyed the fourth strongest opening of 2013 last weekend, and is expected to rake in another $91 million over the current Wednesday-Sunday window, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Frozen, meanwhile, is estimated to bring in around $64 million. This year marks the third time since 2007 that Disney have bought out a big-budget family treat in time for Thanksgiving, and the new addition to its roster looks set to compare well to its predecessors: Enchanted scooped $49 million over its opening weekend in 2007, and Tangled managed an impressive $68.7 million in the same frame in 2010.

The film has been met by extremely positive reviews, with aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reporting that 87% of critics have given a positive response. The voice cast of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad and British comic Jack Whitehall have all been picking up plaudits, and Demi Lovato's involvement in the soundtrack is sure to pull in an extra handful of tween viewers.

As for Catching Fire, the Suzanne Collins adaptation was poised to soar past the $200 million barrier yesterday (November 27), and is predicted to reach $278 million by Sunday - not bad for a 10-day window, and already making back more than double its $130 million budget.

Elsewhere, analysts expect Thor: The Dark World to continue its strong run with another $15 million weekend, while Black Nativity is poised to land in fourth with $14 million - just $1.2 million ahead of The Best Man Holiday, which seems to be performing strongly on the power of word-of-mouth.
