"Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson defended himself Sunday as “a lover … not a hater” but doubled down on the anti-gay remarks that got him suspended from his popular reality TV show.
He even suggested that Jesus Christ can save gay people.

“I love all men and women. I am a lover of humanity, not a hater,” Robertson, 67, told a small Bible study group at his church in West Monroe, La.
But the bearded leader of the duck-hunting Robertson clan surrendered no ground in his family's battle against critics who disagree with his view of homosexuality.

“I will not give or back off from my path,” the evangelical Christian said in his 45-minute speech, according to MailOnline.[3]
The comments were Robertson’s first since his suspension Wednesday by the A&E Network over his homophobic ruminations in GQ magazine.[4]

The duck-call-maker said his outlook comes from the Bible.
“Common sense says we are not going to procreate the human race unless we have a man and a woman,” Robertson said, according to MailOnline[6] . “From the beginning Jesus said, ‘It is a man and a woman.’ Adam was made and Eve was made for this reason.”

The “Duck Dynasty” star said his goal is to enlighten his critics.
“I am just reading what was written over 2,000 years ago,” he reportedly said. “Those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom. All I did was quote from the scriptures, but they just didn’t know it.”

He insisted Jesus can deliver gay people from sin, MailOnline said: “Jesus will take sins away, if you’re a homosexual.”[9]
Wearing his signature camouflage suit, Robertson blasted his detractors.

“I have a degree from Louisiana Tech. But this week I have been called an ignoramus.”
“Jesus Christ was the most perfect being to ever walk this planet and he was persecuted and nailed to the cross, so please don’t be surprised when we get a little static,” Robertson added.
The flap started when Robertson told GQ[11] that “a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man’s anus” and compared homosexuality to bestiality.
Louisiana Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne said Sunday that the state will find the Robertson family a new home on TV if it and A&E are unable to make up.
