Carly Rae Jepsen[1] may not be the best at sports — as proven by her dismal first pitch[2] at a Tampa Bay Rays/Houston Astros game this year — but she hasn't given up on balls. Jepsen will be attending one when she takes the stage in the title role in "Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella" on Broadway next year.

Jepsen will take over the role from Tony Award nominee Laura Osnes on February 4, according to The Washington Post, [3] and will play Cindy for 12 weeks. Fran Drescher of "The Nanny" fame will also be joining the cast as Cinderella's stepmother.

Following the success of her 2012 Grammy-nominated single[4] "Call Me Maybe," Jepsen is currently working on a new record. She described the upcoming disc to Billboard [5] as "a pop album, but ... an album that is my own version of pop," citing Robyn, Kimbra, La Roux and Dragonette as influences.

"I think I have a folky side in my blood from what I used to listen to with my parents, and it'll be fun to incorporate that more in the verses of the pop songs, a little something deeper to the verses," she added. "That's what I love about the pop stars I just named, is they don't do just your regular kind of pop songs. There's some stuff to hold onto and dig into. That's what I want to do."

The record has yet to get a release date, so fans will just have to sate themselves by watching Jepsen belt out "In My Own Little Corner" on Broadway until then.
