Beyonce Recorded 80 Songs for Visual Album

Part Three of documentary series covers video shoots for 'Drunk in Love,' ''Yonce'

Beyoncé'[1] s visual album may have surprised the world[2] when it dropped two weeks ago, but it was hardly an overnight effort. "When I started picking the songs that I gravitated towards – because I recorded about 80 songs – it was the songs that were more effortless for me that stuck around," the star reveals in Part Three of her behind-the-scenes documentary series on Beyoncé [3] .

In the newly released installment, Mrs. Carter offers a look at the recording and video shoot for "Drunk in Love," her sexy duet with Jay Z[5] . In one particularly cute moment, she watches her husband record his guest verse, calling out "What!" with delight as he drops his wordplay on Clint Eastwood's Trouble With the Curve. After they frolic on the beach for the accompanying clip, she calls the moment "organic" and says, "I wanted to carry this idea of being in the moment and embracing mistakes and effortlessness into the videos. I wish every video was like 'Drunk.'"

The video goes on to track Beyoncé's visual shoots for "XO," "No Angel" and "'Yonce," three of the most spontaneous and lower-maintenance endeavors on the record. "XO" director Terry Richardson was a fan of their impulsive process, calling his experience "a beautiful cycle of energy" and even loaning his glasses to Bey at one point. Watch her vision unfold above.
