Because the homicidal Ultron wasn’t enough, it looks like Joss Whedon and Marvel’s Avengers sequel, Age of Ultron, will feature a second villain. No, not Paste-Pot Pete! (That joke never gets old…) Some spoilers obviously follow.[1]

This has not been confirmed by Marvel, but it does come from Latino Review[2] so it’s solid. According to the site’s scoop-master El Mayimbe, “there is a breakdown circulating in Hollywood where Marvel is looking for a PHYSICALLY IMPOSING MAN, age range 40-50, Caucasian, for a supporting role.” And that role is for… Baron von Strucker!

Marvel fans will know that Baron Wolfgang von Strucker is old-school, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1964. He fought in World War II as a Nazi, is one of the main figures of the villainous organization HYDRA (kind of the anti-S.H.I.E.L.D., which you will recall from Captain America: The First Avenger), and is pretty much ageless.

According to LR, in Avengers 2 Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch work for von Strucker -- which essentially tracks with how the two Avengers were first introduced in the comics. The pair (set to be played by Aaron Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen) were originally members of the villainous Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in the X-Men, answering to (their dad) Magneto, but since Marvel can’t use those stories, switching them over to another bad-guy group makes sense.

As for who would play von Strucker, the site reports that Marvel has shown interest in Marton Csokas[3] and Dougray Scott[4] . It’s early days still, but Dougray may finally get to play a Marvel character!
