Since Shia LaBeouf[1] didn’t seem to have much success defusing the controversy over his short film on the ground, he took to the air to apologize.
The 27-year-old actor-turned-scandal magnet, who was accused of ripping off graphic novel writer Daniel Clowes[2] , for his short film, "HowardCantour.com," hired a skywriter for a New Year’s Eve mea culpa.
“I am sorry Daniel Clowes,” read the message over the Los Angeles skyline - an image later posted by LaBeouf on his official @thecampaignbook Twitter feed.
Along with the photo came an enigmatic post, “'CLOUD:

The aerial maneuver may have been part of LaBeouf’s New Year’s Resolution to “be a less controversial tweeter.”

Both start with the line, "A critic is a warrior, each of us on the battlefield have the means to glorify or demolish, whether a film, a career or an entire philosophy by influencing perception in ways that if heartfelt and truthful, can have far-reaching repercussions" - and the similarities continue for much of the film's 11-minute, 47-second running time.

Clowes is reportedly mulling legal action.
Written and directed by LaBeouf and starring Jim Gaffigan as the titular movie critic, “HowardCantour.com," received some critical acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival.
But once news of the scandal broke, LaBeouf scrambled to tweeted out a series of apologies, professing his respect and love for Clowes' work.
“ In my excitement and naiveté as an amateur filmmaker, I got lost in the creative process and neglected to follow proper accreditation,” he tweeted.
