Nigella Lawson resorted to chocolate to get through Christmas, after she failed to protect her children from the fallout of the trial of her former housekeepers, she has said.

The celebrity cook was giving her first television interview since Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo were cleared of taking £685,000 from her former husband, Charles Saatchi, in a case that dealt several bruising blows to her public image.

Appearing on ABC’s Good Morning America to promote The Taste, a cookery gameshow where she is on a panel of four judges, Ms Lawson said that she had tried to keep her children out
