After catching heat for a joke she made about Pearl Harbor veterans, comedian Natasha Leggero[1] is standing her ground. "I'm not sorry," she wrote Friday in an open letter[2] on Tumblr.

During NBC's New Year's Eve broadcast, Leggero was chatting with hostCarson Daly[3] about the infamous tweet SpaghettiOs posted on Pearl Harbor Day, which featured the mascot holding an American flag, asking followers to "Take a moment to remember #PearlHarbor with us."

"I mean, it sucks that the only survivors of Pearl Harbor are being mocked by the only food they can still chew," Leggero quipped.

Since then, Leggero has been subjected to countless attacks[5] on Twitter, quite often threats or rape fantasies. "In the past few days I have been called a c--- so much I felt like I was in a British pub rooting for the wrong soccer team," Leggero wrote.

"I wish I could apologize, but do you really want another insincere apology that you know is just an attempt at damage control and not a real admission of guilt? Let me just try instead to be honest," she continued.

Leggero explained that she has too much "respect for veterans than to think their honor can be impugned" by her joke about dentures and directed focus on the actual problems veterans face, including inadequate care upon their return, sexual assault against female soldiers, PTSD and more. "Where do you think your outrage and action would be better served, calling me a c--- or doing something about the above problems?" she added, before instructing her readers to donate to the Disabled American Veterans[7] foundation.

After posting her letter, Leggero received an outpouring of support from fellow comedians and actors, including Seth Rogen[8] , Elijah Wood[9] andAmy Schumer[10] .
