The Steve McQueen historical drama and the David O. Russell crime dramedy are pitted against each other in multiple categories including Best Picture and Best Ensemble.




The Broadcast Film Critics Association has announced nominees for the upcoming 19th annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards. Historical drama "" and crime drama comedy "" dominate the pack with thirteen nominations each.


They are vying for Best Picture alongside "", "", "", "", "", "", "", and "". Both movies are pitted against each other again in Best Ensemble which includes other nominees such as "", "", "Nebraska", and "The Wolf of Wall Street".


"12 Years a Slave" stars , , and are also among the contenders for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress respectively along with "American Hustle" members , , and .


Additionally, "12 Years a Slave" helmer Steve McQueen and "American Hustle" director David O. Russell are up for Best Director. Other competitors are Paul Greengrass ("Captain Phillips"), Spike Jonze ("Her"), Martin Scorsese ("The Wolf of Wall Street"), and Alfonso Cuaron ("Gravity").


The winners will be feted in a ceremony to be broadcast live on The CW Network at 8 P.M. ET/PT on Thursday, January 16 from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.
