Thanksgiving marked the beginning of the season’s slew of holiday parties, we are all familiar with from the office parties, potlucks, house parties and galas.

With the calendars booked with events between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, it’s important to keep up with the fashion trends this holiday season. Surely, the few priceless buys snatched up during the Black Friday weekend can be added to your holiday partying wardrobe.

For the Ladies

There is no doubt that white is in. It was seen everywhere during the Fall/Winter fashion shows and so white is a must have this holiday season. Winter 2013 has brought with it trends such as punk—which includes tartan, leather, chains, studs and spikes, with unique funky cuts—as seen on the runway by Donatella Versace.

Pastels, which the market offers in furs and coats this season, have debuted in a variety of choices from baby blue, yellow and lavender colors usually associated with spring.

Yet, Victoria Beckham showcased her pastel designs during the Fall 2013 Fashion Week. How chic.

Other trends this season include menswear including oversized men’s coats, designs such as houndstooth, pinstripes, herringbone, and checks. Mid-century pieces are also on trend—designs with a nipped waistcoat and skirt suits, along with tweed.

As always, fur is in. However this year, the crazier the better. Hence, Tom Fords showcased his colorful collection of exotic furs this season.

Don’t forget to incorporate looks that have already been in use this year and are still very hot, such as curve hugging designs and fabrics.

The noticeable crop top trend with high waist skirt and pant are still very much on trend, as well as muted colors—such as greys, whites, nudes, browns. Textures like feathers, are even more appropriate this winter. However, being fashionable does not mean that classic looks should not be embraced. Reds, greens and metallics are still very much the status quo for the holiday season—it is a great way to incorporate the color of the year, emerald green, into your holiday ensembles.

For the Gentlemen

Bringing your A-game can be tough if you don’t have that much to choose from; thankfully that is not a problem in men’s fashion. Traditional plaid is back!

Men’s Fashion has been heavily influenced by Scottish traditions this holiday season—tartan, grid-like checks and houndstooth are the top of the trend.

Bowties are also on trend, as well as matte colors. Once again, that is not to say that classic looks are not embraced. Going classic for the holidays will never steer you wrong. Everyone loves a man in a nice tux or sharp black suit. If you want to shine bright at your event, wearing a pop of color would do nicely as long at it is balanced out with some muted colors.
