(WLTX) - "The Wolf of Wall Street" is the true story of Jordan Belfort, a broker who brought a high-dollar game to the penny stock trade in the late eighties. He treats the world like it's his own rock star playground. But is he arrogant enough to bribe a federal agent?!!!
If you're looking for righteousness and redemption - this is NOT the movie for you. This is three hours of excess and debauchery. In fact, it's not really about making money as much as all the expensive perks they blow it on (hookers, drugs, cars and yachts).
Martin Scorsese returns his cinematic artistry to the form he showed during the early 90s with "Goodfellas" and "Casino." Only, instead of ganster territory, we're in "Glengarry Gecko land." Leonardo DiCaprio serves as a first-person tourguide through the madness, often in a single steadicam shot. And, if DiCaprio is filling DeNiro's shoes, then there must be a Joe Pesci.
Jonah Hill is almost frightening as Belfort's best friend, Donnie Azoff. His behavior is so careless that he draws attention at every turn. With a film full of rotten characters, being the sleaziest is quite an achievement. Don't be surprised if he gets rewarded for this in the next few months.
People may be turned off by the lack of morals in this movie. But it certainly kept it from being boring. You may not like yourself for liking it, but you will probably like it nonetheless. I know I sure did!
