Video has emerged of Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson verbally attacking gay people before he became the star of the hit show, it's claimed.

Footage has purportedly surfaced[1] showing the 67-year-old saying homosexuals are "ruthless," "full of murder," "arrogant" and "liable to invent ways of doing evil."

"They bow down to birds, animals and reptiles and each other and the first thing you see coming out of them is gross sexual immorality," he adds, preacher-like, on the clip.

Filmed three years ago, the recording came to light Friday as the reality celeb faced an increasing storm over comments made for the January issue of GQ magazine[2] .

In the forthcoming issue, he is reported as equating same-sex relationships with bestiality.

"Everything is blurred on what's right and what's wrong. Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behaviour and just morph out from there," he said.

"Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men."

The apparent anti-gay rant featured in the video is believed to have been made in front of diners enjoying a Wild Game Supper at the Berean Bible Church in Pennsylvania in 2010.

In it, Robertson quotes extensively from the Bible - which he often holds in one hand - and also accuses homosexuals of dishonoring and degrading behavior.

"Is this going on in America right now?" he asks rhetorically, before adding: "Look around ... boy, is there some immorality going on around here!"

A&E suspended Phil Robertson shortly after the interview hit the GQ website.

The hour-long address, posted to YouTube in separate clips, is believed to have been filmed at least one year before the Robertson hit family show was commissioned by the A&E network.

Robertson does not appear to explicitly mention the words "homosexuality" or "gay" during the speech, but many critics say they are left in "no doubt" as to who he is targeting.

"This man is repulsive, so full of hate. Shame on the people that defend his discriminatory rhetoric," wrote one viewer.

"Dude can't even quote the Bible correctly, but I suppose that's what you have to do to claim that the Bible supports bigotry and homophobia," added another.

Robertson, the star of the show that follows his duck-calling business in the swampland of West Monroe, Louisiana, was suspended indefinitely following his remarks to GQ.

The interview also saw him state: "It seems like, to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man's anus, that's just me," the reality star said.

"I'm just thinking: There's more there! She's got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I'm saying? But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical."

His family, who feature alongside him in the show, said they were now in talks about its future.

But a statement added: "As a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm."

Top right-wing names have also waded into the debate, with Sarah Palin, radio pundit Sean Hannity and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz all criticizing the network for indefinitely suspending Robertson.
