Tom Cruise's lengthy and public defamation suit is finally over.
Tom Cuise has settled his defamation lawsuit with InTouch and Life & Style over the accusations that he had abandoned his daughter Suri, published by the tabloids last year. The settlement included a carefully worded apology by the defendants. In it, they claim: “Bauer Publishing, 'In Touch' and 'Life and Style' never intended to communicate that Tom Cruise had cut off all ties and abandoned his daughter Suri and regret if anyone drew that inference from anything they published.”
Cruise only settled on the condition that the tabloids in question apologise for their statements.
The settlement also states that each side is to pay its own legal fees, according to TMZ[1] . The settlement was originally started by Cruise over accusations that he’d “abandoned” his then six-year-old daughter, following his public divorce from Katie Holmes.
The lawsuit surrounded Cruise with yet more controversy.
The defamation lawsuit dragged on for months, bringing with it several cringe-worthy moments. Most recently, tabloid headlines exploded with the claims that Cruise had compared the feeling of being away from his daughter on film shoots to fighting in Afghanistan.[2] Cruise’s reps then adamantly denied the claims, but the story had already reached fellow actor Mark Wahlberg, who spoke out against the Mission Impossible actor[3] . Wahlberg then apologized, saying that he didn’t realise it was Tom Cruise who had made the statements and that he wasn’t that aware of the situation.
Even Mark Wahlberg got involved somehow.
