Not content with having the most talked-about Christmas ad of the year, John Lewis has also launched a new autumn winter fashion collection in stores. KIN by John Lewis is the first ever lifestyle label designed in house, comprising womenswear, menswear and childrenswear. The focus is on wardrobe staples - good news for investment buyers who don't want to have to reinvent their wardrobes every season. And what could be more of an investment to see you through season after season than these 'coated' skinny jeans - rendered from a durable cotton blend for comfort, they are tactile, stylish and practical.

Coated Skinny Jeans in black, £55. See more fit-your-shape jeans buys here[1]

Team your jeans with this scoop-neck jumper dress, an everyday staple for your winter wardrobe. Casual and comfortable with dressed-up details like the dropped shoulders and ribbed boat neckline, it skims flatteringly over the stomach to suit any body shape.

Scoop Neck Jumper Dress in grey, £59

Colour palettes for the collection are primarily tonal - white, oatmeal, grey and navy - but there are pops of colour and pattern too. Elegantly illustrated in these two easy-to-wear dresses in flattering teal; a short sleeve linen t-shirt dress which would look great over your skinny jeans, and a slightly more dressed-up tie-waist dress, with simple wide boat neckline and subtly flared three-quarter length sleeves.

Linen T-shirt Dress in teal, £55; Scratch Print Tie Waist Dress, £59

And finally, you'll need a winter coat. Collarless designs are bang on trend for winter 2013, and perfect for layering with a cosy scarf or shawl, or dressing up with a fake fur stole. Over-size coats are big news for the season, but the slim fitting shape means it won't dwarf your frame.

Cocoon Wool Coat in grey, £150
