Celebrity style watchers were slightly perplexed by Rihanna’s[1] hairstyle seen at Sunday night’s American Music Awards[2] . RiRi’s doobie wrap is a set-in- progress, and in an exclusive interview with Elle[3] on Wednesday, Rihanna[4] ’s celebrity hairstylist discussed the backlash the “Diamonds” singer received for her choice of red carpet[5] fare.
Unless you have ethnic hair or work in the beauty field, you may have assumed Rihanna was simply trying on a new do. However, professionals looked twice at Rihanna’s doobie wrap, which is reserved for sleep or as one leaves the salon. After curly hair is straightened, it is then coiled and pinned around the head to hold the style in place, similar to a scarf. The term doobie wrap can be combined or used independently; doobie, wrap.
Ursula Stephen[6] , the celebrity hairstylist behind Rihanna’s AMAs[7] hairstyle, told Jessica Andrews of Elle[8] she was a tad hesitant at first to create the doobie wrap because it had never been done on a red carpet before, however, RiRi was adamant. Critics scrutinized the reasons behind Rihanna’s hairstyle choice, but Stephen insists it was all about fashion.
It was a nod to fashion! This is a style that can be worn by some of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood.
