The Hollywood Reporter reported on Friday[1] that during an appearance on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live,” Terrence Howard accused Robert Downey Jr. of being the reason he didn’t reprise his role as James Rhodes in the Iron Man sequels. After a viewer submitted a question about wanting to know the real reason Don Cheadle replaced Howard in the films, Howard provided a candid response.
This is gonna get me in a lot of trouble, but who gives a f*ck. It turns out that the person that I helped become ‘Iron Man,’ when it was time to re-up for the second one, took the money that was supposed to go to me and pushed me out.”
The person that Howard had helped become Iron Man is of course Robert Downey Jr. Howard said that Downey Jr. didn’t return his phone calls for three months following his departure from the blockbuster franchise. According to Howard, he had a three picture deal, but the studio broke his contract when Downey Jr. wanted more money to continue his Tony Stark role.
Howard’s interview on “Watch What Happens Live” isn’t the first time the actor has bemoaned his departure from “Iron Man.” In an interview earlier this year with Hollywood.com[2] , Howard said that his alleged forced departure from “Iron Man” has been detrimental to his career. Howard claims that he had to “start all over” and went from making $6 million per film, back to $60,000 a movie, but he’s hopeful for the future.
I’ll make $20 million soon. Because I have learned the lessons of yesterday.”
Howard is currently promoting his latest project, “The Best Man Holiday.”
