Miller, the oldest daughter of Walt and Lilly Disney, passes away at the age of 79 from injuries sustained in a fall, official site says.




Diane Disney Miller, the oldest daughter of Walt and Lilly Disney, has passed away. According to a statement released on official site, Miller passed away in Napa, California at the age of 79. A family friend, Richard Greene, said she died from complications as the results of a fall in September, Los Angeles Times reports.


"[Diane] holds a special place in the history of The Walt Disney Company and in the hearts of fans everywhere. She will be remembered for her grace and generosity and tireless work to preserve her father's legacy, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her," current Disney CEO Robert Iger said.


Miller was born on December 18, 1933 in Los Angeles. She and the family lived in the Los Feliz area and later moved to Holmby Hills. At the age of 20, she met Ron Miller at the University of Southern California and the couple got married on May 9, 1954. Ron served as the CEO of the Walt Disney Company between 1980-1984.


Miller is known for her philanthropist works. She gave $50 million to build a new home for the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1987 and supported the architect Frank Gehry's vision on the project, in addition to being benefactor to other causes.


Prior to her death, she served as the president of the board of directors of the Walt Disney Family Foundation, which owns and operates the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco. She was also a co-founder of museum which was opened in 2009.


Miller is survived by her husband, seven children, thirteen grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Funeral services will be private.
