Alec Baldwin's wife Hilaria has broken her silence about the couple's stalker trial, which ended on Thursday, revealing she feels "relieved" and "happy" now the drama is over and her tormentor is behind bars.

Actress Genevieve Sabourin was found guilty of stalking and harassing Baldwin at the end of a four-day trial, during which Hilaria testified and recalled a phone conversation she had with the Canadian.

Speaking to Extra, the news show on which she is often credited as a correspondent, she says, "Now that it is finally over I feel safe, relieved, and happy to move forward."

Recalling her time on the witness stand on Monday, when she faced off with Sabourin - who was repeatedly told not to interrupt the court's proceedings - she adds, "I was shaking the entire time, but I was grateful for the officers of the court who would step in front of me and ask her to be quiet, the judge who was asking her to be quiet, her lawyer who was asking her to be quiet.

"She said I was gonna go to hell, she said that my baby isn't real... Every single time I made a comment she would 'tsk' me, move her chair, sigh heavily."

Hilaria insists she never thought for one moment that her husband had led the actress on after meeting her over dinner as a favour to a producer friend, stating, "I never questioned that he was faithful... I remember from the first couple of dates that we had that he told me that was a woman that was stalking him, he showed me proof of that... I didn't even know him when he took her out.

"We're sad that it had to come down to this, sad that she couldn't have gotten help earlier, but in the end our safety is the most important thing, and the safety of our daughter."

Sabourin was sentenced to 180 days in jail, plus 30 more days for contempt of court.

Hilaria says, "We're gonna sleep well for the next 210 days."
