You see a lot of colourful characters at Toronto’s World Mastercard Fashion Week. Not so on the runway. Midway through Fashion Week, the designers have spoken, and black-and-white looks are overwhelmingly dominating the shows.

Of course, black-and-white doesn’t look the same everywhere: Pink Tartan went with a poppy combination of '50s prim and '60s mod, Travis Taddeo mixed leather pieces into athletic-inspired jersey ones, and David Dixon went for romantic lace and tulle.

Desperate for a little colour in your life? Go monochrome. All-black or all-white looks were king this week, but even the designers that chose to liven up their colour palette – hits of pale blue and slate at Travis Taddeo and Beaufille, emerald at JNBY, lemon yellow at Pink Tartan – did it by teaming similarly-hued pieces together.

That’s not all Canada’s top designers agreed on this week – here are a few more common threads between the Toronto collections.
