New owners Ashley Nesser and Loftin Brooks have made Mignon’s interior lighter and brighter and added clothing for tweens to the mix along with those for infants and toddlers, but that doesn’t mean they’re forgetting what customers have sought out for two decades at the children’s store in The Rink.

The embroidery and smocking in beloved brands such as Auraluz, Feltman Brothers and Petite Amie are still there to adorn the tiniest of princes and princesses. Alongside those special-occasion clothes, though, customers can now find fun and on-trend European labels such as Wheat and Appaman, for those taking baby steps into the world of fashion.

11wishinstoremignon_1024_2.jpgNew owners Loftin Brooks and Ashley Nesser have added a tween section to the children's clothing store.

The tween section carries brands such as Joe’s Jeans, Splendid, Ellla Moss and Mayoral, which let girls ages approximately 9 to 12 follow in their fashionable moms’ footsteps in age-appropriate ways.

“We had people asking for a tween section,” Brooks says. “That‘s when they (young girls) start really deciding what they want to wear. We wanted to create a mix, so there’s somewhat of a spectrum; some kids want to push the envelope more, but moms come in and want age-appropriate clothing. This relieves the tussle ... where everyone will feel comfortable with the suggestions.”

Tween trends include colored jeans, tops with colorful stripes, florals and other bold prints, animal prints and layering bracelets.

And it’s all in a familiar space that’s been renovated to feel more modern. Adding another window both opens the store up to the street and adds more natural light. “Opening up the window, it’s a different world,” Brooks says.

A stairwell was removed to increase floor space, and lighter colors in ceilings, walls and flooring help to create an airy, open and inviting environment for all ages.
